HTMLDOC – HTML to PDF Conversion Tool
HTMLDOC is a program that converts HTML to Postscript or PDF. Links are maintained, so this is a better tool to use than the built in print to PDF capacity in OS X if maintaining hyperlinks is important.
There is a free online web page to PDF conversion tool that can give you a taste of HTMLDOC’s capabilities.
This is a nice tool for creating documentaion. But it is definitely not a subsitute for Acrobat. I limits you to a handful of fonts and really only supports HTML 3.2 for layout.
Actually, if you are looking for a slick Mac program, look elsewhere. This has an interface that only a geek could love. Much of its advanced capabilities are burried in either the command line, yes Terminal, or as PHP scripts that require you to run from your Apache webserver. That shouldn’t be surprising as it is an HTML conversion program. You even have to enter the licence code via the command line.
Still, considering that it this is more a substitute for PDFlib, which costs many times more, than it is for any Adobe product, HTMLDOC is worth considering for the Mac Unix user.
